THE FLAG NOW FLIES ABOVE THE CORVALLIS VETERANS MEMORIAL 24 HOURS A DAY!!

The electrical work was completed on Thursday 12 June.  On Flag Day 14 June 2008, Tom Devine, Doug Mason, Frank Mason, and Connie Mason raised the Flag at 0900 above the Corvallis Veterans Memorial.  Ladders (as in three) were required because the lights are nearly 20' above the ground and that is where we had to attach it.  All went well except for the cell phone that got dropped into a cup of coffee.

The flag shortly after it was raised.  You can see the wrinkles from being in my A-3 bag.

Tom and Doug watching the flag moving in the breeze.  You can see who still has a working cell phone on his belt!

There she flies now 24/7.  Lots of energy put into getting her there.

CORVALLIS MEMORIAL DAY PARADE

This years parade was a little shorter than last year, but still an outstanding parade.

Here is the crowd watching the jumpers exit the airplane.

And the start of the parade was signaled by the Flag floating down with a jumper.

Francis Curdy was the Grand Marshall of the parade.

The cub scouts carried our banner this year.

The highlight of this years parade was the 20' x 30' flag that is to fly over the Corvallis Veterans Memorial.

THE FLAG FLIES ABOVE THE CORVALLIS VETERANS MEMORIAL!

On Tuesday 20 May 2008, this Nation's flag was raised at the Corvallis Veterans Memorial at 0925.  This was a trial run to make sure everything was in order for the dedication on Memorial Day.  The 20' x 30' flag looks very good flying from the 80' flag pole!

FLAG POLE UP AT VETERANS MEMORIAL IN CORVALLIS!

Here you see the crew raising the 80' flag pole and getting ready to set it in the ground.

And this is what it looks like standing all by itself.

FLAG DISPOSAL CEREMONY AT CORVALLIS MIDDLE SCHOOL

The Post put on a Flag Disposal Ceremony on 13 May at the Corvallis Middle School.

Color bearers Roy Meyers and Tom Devine.  A cool breezy day it was.

CORVALLIS VETERANS MEMORIAL

The second pour of concrete was done on 8 May 2008.  Junior Chavez and crew had the forms all set and started pouring at 0900.

The forms ready for concrete.

Everyone had a good time.

Starting to smooth out the pour.

The building of the Veterans Memorial in Corvallis is underway.  It started on 1 May 2008 by members of the Corvallis American Legion Post 91 and local Contractors who have donated their time and equipment to this endeavor.

Post members Tom Devine, Rockie W. and Junior Chavez confer on pouring the concrete down the 10 foot hole.

Junior C. and Rockie W. starting the pour of "mud".  I don't know much about concrete, but picked up some of the lingo while watching the experts work.  You can see the electric conduit put in by Jim Rivera of Rivera Electric Co sticking up by the culvert .

MEET THE GRAND MARSHAL PANCAKE BREAKFAST

On Saturday 19 April 2008, the Post had a Pancake Breakfast so the community could meet Francis Curdy our Grand Marshal for the 2008 Memorial Day Parade.  We also had a silent auction instead of having an auction after our parade on Memorial Day.  During that time frame, we will be having the dedication of the Veterans Memorial at the Community Events Center.

Commander Doug and 2008 Memorial Parade Grand Marshal Francis Curdy.
